Title: Advances in Metric Embedding Theory Yair Bartal Computer Science Department Hebrew University ABSTRACT: We will describe some basic results in the theory of finite metric embedding focusing on some recent developments. In particular, we will review the proof of the theorem which states that every finite metric space embeds in Euclidean space with constant average distortion. In this talk I will give the complete proof of the contant average distortion theorem. As time allows I will survey other topics in metric embedding such as embedding into tree metrics, locality preserving embeddings, etc.
